Laser machining training: precision is set, not improvised
Our laser machining courses help you understand laser-material interactions, set your operating parameters and make use of surface functionalisation. Delivered by the engineers who develop these applications every day.

Our laser machining training courses
A comprehensive programme, accessible to technicians and engineers alike, covering all laser material removal processes and continuing with hands-on practicals on our machines.
Laser Engraving and Laser Machining
In laser machining, everything comes down to the pulse
Unlike welding, laser machining does not join: it removes material, pulse after pulse. Pulse duration, fluence, overlap rate, number of passes, scanning strategy: these parameters determine depth, surface finish, heat-affected zone and burrs. Two similar settings produce two very different parts, which is what makes the process hard to stabilise without a method.
Our course covers the principles of engraving and machining, setting operating parameters, process optimisation and trials on different materials. It also covers surface functionalisation, which modifies the properties of a part to improve its wear resistance, corrosion resistance or thermal and optical characteristics, without chemical treatment.

Your questions, our answers
Four application families united by the same principle, the controlled removal of material through interaction between the beam and the material: laser drilling, laser surface texturing, laser micro-cutting and engraving. That is why they are covered in a single programme rather than in separate modules.
It is a question of depth and purpose. Marking alters the appearance of the surface without significant material removal, to identify or trace a part. Engraving removes material to a depth of a few tens of microns to create a lasting relief. Micromachining removes material to produce a functional geometry with dimensional requirements. All three are covered, with the parameters and strategies specific to each.
It is not a prerequisite, but the course is aimed primarily at those who already work with a laser or are going to integrate one: micromachining installation managers, methods technicians, setters, R&D engineers, design offices and production teams. If nobody on the team has a laser background, start with 'Industrial Lasers for Beginners', then move on to machining.
It gives a function to the surface of a part without changing its geometry: improving wear resistance and corrosion resistance, modifying thermal or optical characteristics, and changing friction behaviour or adhesion before bonding. It is a field of strong industrial growth, notably because it can replace certain chemical treatments. The course addresses it specifically from the angle of surface functionalisation.
