Laser processes for defence: precision, robustness and mastery of critical materials
Welding of critical alloys, repair of parts with long procurement lead times, machining of advanced materials: IREPA LASER develops and industrialises laser processes for applications where precision and robustness are top-priority requirements.
Our laser expertise
Laser welding of critical alloys
Welding of titanium, Inconel, Waspaloy, stainless steels and aluminium alloys. Control of the heat-affected zone, distortion control, qualification to your prime contractors' standards. Metal assemblies up to 5 metres
Repair and maintenance in operational condition
Laser DED repair of damaged, cracked or out-of-tolerance parts, with metallurgical properties equivalent to the original material. For components whose resupply is lengthy or uncertain, it is often the only reasonable option.
Laser machining and laser micro-cutting
Cutting and machining of advanced materials, composites included, without delamination or matrix degradation. Femtosecond lasers for a virtually zero heat-affected zone.
Surface functionalisation by laser surface texturing
Laser texturing to improve adhesion before structural bonding, modify friction behaviour or functionalise contact surfaces.
Laser process simulation
simulation of laser processes (DED additive manufacturing, laser welding and laser machining) to predict distortion, temperature fields and residual stresses before manufacturing
Training in our laser processes for defence
Your teams can build their skills in our laser processes: welding of critical alloys, additive manufacturing and laser machining. Our training courses pass on the set-up methodology and inspection criteria essential for work that meets the sector's qualification requirements.
Practical applications
These are the applications we work on most frequently in the defence sector:
- Laser welding of structural components in titanium and aluminium alloys
- Repair rather than replacement of parts with long procurement lead times
- Micro-cutting and machining of advanced materials without thermal damage
- Surface texturing to improve adhesion before bonding
- Simulation
Over 40 years of laser expertise serving industry
Laser technologies are transforming industrial processes: high-precision joining, metal additive manufacturing, micromachining of advanced materials. Yet implementing them on a production line remains complex. It requires mastery of physical phenomena, materials and throughput constraints.
Since 1982, IREPA LASER has supported manufacturers from the R&D phase through to series production. We are not just laser process experts: we are solution creators. Our R&D activity enables us to develop new processes, overcome technological barriers and give our clients answers where standard industrial solutions are no longer enough.
Every process we develop is qualified, documented and transferable to your teams.
