Laser R&D and innovation: turn your technological barriers into a competitive advantage
IREPA LASER supports you through both phases of a laser project: R&D, to master a still-immature technology and overcome its technical barriers, and innovation, to turn those results into a solution that genuinely improves the performance of your processes. Founding member of the Institut Carnot MICA, accredited as a Centre de Ressources Technologiques (Technology Resource Centre), partner of the LabCom LASERSURF (ANR/CNRS).
R&D that starts from industrial problems, not academic ones
IREPA LASER is not a fundamental research laboratory. It is a Centre de Ressources Technologiques (CRT) whose mission covers two complementary phases.
R&D consists of mastering a still-immature laser technology and overcoming its technical barriers: developing new materials, or developing technology building blocks to automate a process or improve production performance, for example. Our R&D always starts from a real industrial problem, never from an academic question. It removes the technological barrier, but does not on its own result in an industrialisable solution.
Innovation then takes over: it turns these R&D results into an industrialisable solution, a qualified, documented process that can be integrated into your production.
This approach allows us to work at two levels:
- For manufacturers facing a problem with no solution, we co-develop the process within a collaborative project, a bilateral research contract or a CIFRE industrial PhD.
- For manufacturers who want to look ahead, we keep you informed about technologies under development that could transform your processes over the next 3 to 5 years. Because a manufacturer that adopts a technology early gains a competitive edge over its rivals.
Research programmes that drive your performance
We lead and contribute to ambitious R&D projects with one objective: to overcome technological barriers on strategic topics, then turn those advances into tangible innovations for your industrial performance.
We lead and contribute to ambitious R&D projects:
- Additive manufacturing
- Multi-material joining
- Precision micro-machining
- Advanced laser processes
- Digitalisation and process intelligence
Our R&D and innovation projects
Ongoing projects and results already turned into operational innovations for our clients.
What do you gain from collaborating with IREPA LASER on your R&D?
Several mechanisms enable a manufacturer to collaborate with IREPA LASER on an R&D project, with different levels of commitment and funding.
By collaborating with IREPA LASER, you benefit from:
- Technologies ahead of their industrialisation
- Reduced risks associated with innovation and scale-up
- Expertise drawn from applied research and mastery of laser processes
An approach that turns your industrial challenges into structured, exploitable R&D projects.
The LabCom LASERSURF:
academic research serving industry
Since 2023, IREPA LASER and the ICube laboratory (CNRS – Université de Strasbourg) have been working together within the joint laboratory LASERSURF, accredited by the ANR.
This partnership is part of a drive to accelerate the transfer of scientific innovations into concrete industrial applications.
A clear objective
To develop and industrialise surface functionalisation using ultrashort pulse (USP) lasers, paving the way for new large-scale industrial applications.
A unique complementarity
- ICube: fundamental research, understanding of phenomena, modelling
- IREPA LASER: industrial transfer, process integration, field validation
