Laser welding training: master your parameters, joints and materials.

Comprehensive training pathways take learners from their first contact with the process through to expertise: parameter setting, material specialisation, joint inspection, applied metallurgy and manual welding. Learning combines theory and practice, with hands-on exercises on a diverse range of laser equipment.

Our laser welding training courses

Three entry points depending on your starting point: understand the process before investing, master parameter setting for production, or specialise in a material and joint type. Specialisations can be combined and lead to recognised titles.

Becoming a Manual Laser Welder Safely

Plastics and Polymer Welding

Laser welding is quick to pick up, but hard to master.

A porous weld bead, lack of penetration, a blowhole in stainless steel, a failed lap weld on copper: in almost every case, the problem lies not with the machine but with the parameter–material combination. Power, speed, focusing, gas, joint preparation, gap between parts: every variable shifts the result, and the interactions cannot be improvised.

Our training courses therefore do more than explain the process. You leave with a setting methodology, a framework for interpreting defects and the associated inspection criteria. Practical work takes place on our industrial equipment, the very machines on which our 40 PhDs, engineers and technicians develop and qualify processes for the aerospace, automotive, energy and medical sectors.

Your questions, our answers

Which training course should I start with?

It depends on your starting point. If you need to decide on an investment, begin with L'essentiel du Soudage Laser (Laser Welding Essentials), a one-day course designed to help you understand the process and take a genuine part in supplier trials. If your teams will be producing, the foundation is the three-day Maîtrise du Soudage Laser (Mastering Laser Welding), to be supplemented by the specialisations matching your materials and joint types. And if you have just acquired a manual welding head, go straight to Devenir Soudeur Laser Manuel en toute Sécurité (Becoming a Safe Manual Laser Welder).

What are the Technologist, Specialist and Expert titles?

The Maîtrise du Soudage Laser course leads to the title of Technologist in Automatic Continuous-Wave Laser Metal Welding. Four specialisations then build on it: butt welding of steels, lap welding of stainless steels, lap welding of copper and aluminium, and inspection of welded joints. Completing one or two specialisations earns the title of Level II Specialist; three or more earn the title of Expert. It is a strong argument to put to your customers: your welders' competence becomes qualified and identifiable.

Is specific training needed for manual laser welding?

Yes, and this is a point on which we are firm. The process can be picked up in a few hours, which gives a false sense of mastery, whereas exposure to radiation is out of all proportion to that in an enclosed cell. Serious accidents have already been recorded in France. The Devenir Soudeur Laser Manuel en toute Sécurité course covers technique, parameters and safety, and is complemented by the laser safety training course dedicated to manual welding or cleaning applications.

Our welds show recurring defects: which training course should we choose?

Maîtrise du Soudage Laser for the parameters, and Métallurgie Laser Appliquée (Applied Laser Metallurgy) to understand the origin of the defect in the material. Porosity or hot cracking has a metallurgical cause: as long as you only think in terms of power and speed, you are treating the symptom. If the problem recurs in production, an in-house session on your own parts is more effective than an inter-company session, as we then start from your defective samples.
