Laser safety audits, inspections and consultancy: we come to your installations

Non-compliant laser machines, operators exposed without training, a new installation to make safe: IREPA LASER carries out on-site compliance audits, inspects your equipment and advises you on setting up a lasting laser safety approach.

When should you call on a laser safety audit expert?

The obligation to assess the risks associated with Class 3B and 4 lasers applies to every employer who provides such equipment to their employees. In practice, several situations make bringing in an external expert particularly worthwhile.

When acquiring a new laser

A new laser, even brand new and CE-marked, does not automatically guarantee the safety of the installation into which it is integrated. The working environment, exclusion zones, personal and collective protection and procedures must be assessed for every new commissioning.

After a modification to the installation

Moving a machine, adding a robotic arm, changing the process, a new material: any substantial modification must be followed by a new risk assessment.

Following an incident or near miss

A laser incident, even without injury, is a warning sign. A post-incident audit identifies the technical and organisational causes.

To prepare for an inspection or certification

A preliminary audit makes it possible to identify and correct non-conformities before the official inspection.

Preventively and periodically

A periodic audit maintains your level of compliance over time.

Our laser safety services

Our support covers two complementary areas: audits and technical advice for your installations, and training for your teams.

Audit of your laser machines

We carry out compliance audits of your laser machines in industrial environments. The audit covers all safety aspects: built-in protective devices, exclusion zones, signage, operating procedures, personal protective equipment and operator training.

How the audit works:

  • Prior collection of information on the machine (class, use, parameters, existing documentation)
  • Site visit and visual inspection of the installation
  • Verification of active (interlocks, shutters, guards) and passive (screens, enclosures) safety devices
  • Physical measurements where necessary: detection of radiation leaks, measurement of radiation emissions from specular or diffuse reflection around the installation
  • Interviews with operators and managers

Deliverables: detailed audit report, prioritised corrective action plan, technical and organisational recommendations.

Audit of your laser equipment

We assess the compliance of laser equipment that goes beyond conventional industrial production: measuring instruments, laboratory equipment, medical lasers, show and event laser systems, and educational equipment.

How it works:

  • Identification of the laser class and applicable standards
  • Review of regulatory documentation (declaration of conformity, CE marking)
  • Inspection of the equipment and measurement of laser radiation exposure where necessary
  • Assessment of the suitability of the equipment for actual conditions of use

Laser safety consultancy & support

Beyond one-off audits, we support manufacturers who wish to build or improve their laser safety approach in a structured, lasting way.

What our consultancy covers:

  • Help with drafting the laser risk assessment document
  • Recommendations on the choice and layout of collective protection
  • Definition of operating procedures and safety instructions
  • Drawing up the prevention plan for contractors working on laser installations
  • Advice on appointing and training the RSL or PCSL
  • Support with compliance with the Machinery Directive
