Laser processes for the nuclear sector: surface durability and repair of critical components

Stelliting of valves, cladding of surfaces exposed to wear, repair of critical parts: IREPA LASER develops and industrialises laser processes for environments where component reliability is non-negotiable.

Our laser expertise

Stelliting and laser cladding

Deposition of a cobalt alloy on surfaces that must withstand wear, corrosion and extreme temperatures, without altering the chemical composition of the deposit. We have carried out stelliting of nuclear power plant components.

Laser DED repair

Material deposited exactly where it is missing, with micrometre precision and metallurgical properties equivalent to the original material. For components with long resupply lead times, repair becomes a serious alternative to replacement.

Laser welding of components

Welding of stainless steels, engineering steels and nickel-based alloys. Control of the heat-affected zone, distortion control, process qualification to your standards

Adding features to existing parts

Local modification of a component to reinforce a highly stressed area, add a boss or integrate a functional surface, without starting again from raw stock.

Laser process simulation

Simulation of the layer-by-layer deposition process to anticipate distortion and residual stresses before any physical manufacturing.

Training in our laser processes for the nuclear sector

Your teams can build their skills in our laser processes: cladding, additive manufacturing and welding of components. Our training courses pass on the set-up methodology and inspection criteria essential for work that complies with the sector's strict regulatory requirements.

Practical applications

These are the applications we work on most frequently in the nuclear sector:

  • Cladding or stelliting of nuclear power plant components
  • Repair of worn or out-of-tolerance parts as an alternative to replacement
  • Laser welding of stainless steel and nickel-based alloy components
  • Adding local features to existing components
  • Simulation

Over 40 years of laser expertise serving industry

Laser technologies are transforming industrial processes: high-precision joining, metal additive manufacturing, micromachining of advanced materials. Yet implementing them on a production line remains complex. It requires mastery of physical phenomena, materials and throughput constraints.

Since 1982, IREPA LASER has supported manufacturers from the R&D phase through to series production. We are not just laser process experts: we are solution creators. Our R&D activity enables us to develop new processes, overcome technological barriers and give our clients answers when standard industrial solutions are no longer enough.

Every process we develop is qualified, documented and transferable to your teams.
