High-density drilling: composites, metals, polymers
Industrial need
Producing very high-density drilling patterns in composite, metallic and polymer materials without thermal or mechanical damage to the material, while meeting throughput rates compatible with industrial production requirements.
IREPA LASER solution
Development of a dedicated solution integrating a high-power femtosecond laser with an optical system enabling multi-beam processing. The system is coupled with a robotic system for positioning and automated processing of large surfaces.
Technical challenge
The challenge is to drill 3D surfaces of several square metres containing thousands of micro-holes, while maintaining an extremely high throughput and consistent quality. It is also necessary to preserve the integrity of sensitive materials, particularly composites.
Results achieved
The process achieves a rate of around one second per hole, while guaranteeing no thermal or mechanical degradation of the material. The solution thus preserves structural properties and paves the way for industrial applications with very high hole densities.
