Glass/glass laser welding: borosilicate / borosilicate (thin sections)
Industrial need
Producing glass/glass joints in thin sections while guaranteeing excellent mechanical strength, perfect hermeticity and optical transparency. The challenge is to master thin parts that are sensitive to thermal stresses, while allowing additional functions to be integrated.
IREPA LASER solution
Development of a transmission welding process using ultrashort pulse lasers, enabling extremely localised energy input. This approach ensures controlled melting at the interface without additives and is particularly suited to thin geometries.
Technical challenge
Mastering the welding of thin parts without distortion or damage, while ensuring the hermeticity of the joint. The process must enable the formation of precise, continuous weld seams compatible with complex geometries and the addition of functions.
Results achieved
The process produces transparent weld seams with very high mechanical strength and excellent resistance to thermal cycling. Hermeticity is ensured without post-treatment and with competitive cycle times. The solution also opens up the possibility of integrating information functions directly into the assembled parts.
