Training course leading to the Competent Person in Laser Safety level according to the CoNSOL framework (Photonics France). The competent person in laser safety is able to carry out an in-depth risk analysis by examining employee exposure. They define the MPE/VLE, the classification of lasers and the choice of eye protection in accordance with standards EN207, EN208 and EN12254. This training course prepares participants to carry out a quantified risk analysis in compliance with standard EN60825-1 and the Labour Code.

Official PCSL training – holders are entered in the national PCSL register managed by the Commission Nationale de Sécurité Optique et Laser (CoNSOL of the Photonics France federation).

  • Characteristics of laser light
  • Operating principle
  • Visible, infrared or ultraviolet lasers
  • Specific features of continuous-wave and pulsed lasers

2) Risk assessment

  • Physiological effects: impact on the eyes and skin
  • Analysis of risk situations
  • Other risks: electrical, chemical, fire…

3) Regulations

  • European Directive 2006/25/EC
  • French Labour Code
  • NF EN 60825-1 standard

4) Exposure limits (tutorials

  • Defining exposure limit values (VLE)
  • Nominal ocular hazard distance (DNDO)
  • Accessible emission limit (LEA) and classes

5) Prevention measures and means of protection

  • Layout of premises (industrial, entertainment (ERP), medical…)
  • Management of people flows
  • Protection of people: calculating protector scale numbers (collective and personal protective equipment)
