Laser welding of polymers and laser welding of glass: two distinct areas of expertise
Thermoplastic polymers or glass: IREPA LASER has mastered two independent laser joining processes, each suited to the specific properties of its material. Discover our two areas of expertise.
Choose your application:
These two processes are independent. Laser welding of polymers joins parts made of engineering plastics. Laser welding of glass joins glass parts. They are not used to join glass to polymer.
Laser welding of polymers
- Joining of standard and engineering thermoplastics and composites
- Transmission welding: the laser passes through the upper part and melts the interface with the absorbing part
- Clean process, with no filler material and no adhesive
- Discreet, sealed and strong joints
- Suitable for complex parts and integrated functions
Laser welding of glass
- Direct joining of soda-lime, borosilicate and technical glasses
- Permanent, invisible and hermetic molecular bond, with no adhesive or consumables
- Microchannels, sensors or components can be integrated into the assembly
- Design freedom and miniaturisation
Our achievements in polymer and glass laser welding
Encapsulation of electronic components in polymer, borosilicate glass lab-on-chip, welding of thermoplastic medical housings, microfluidic system: this is how our processes meet applications that conventional technologies cannot handle.
