Glass/glass laser welding: soda-lime / soda-lime
Industrial need
Producing long-lasting soda-lime glass/glass joints while guaranteeing excellent mechanical strength, perfect hermeticity and optical transparency. The aim is to master a material that is very widely used in industry while ensuring reliable, reproducible joints.
IREPA LASER solution
Development of a transmission welding process using ultrashort pulse lasers, enabling localised energy input at the interface. This approach ensures controlled melting without additives, suited to the specific constraints of soda-lime glass.
Technical challenge
Mastering complex geometries while ensuring the formation of continuous, stable volumetric weld seams. The process must guarantee perfect hermeticity and high mechanical strength without degrading the material.
Results achieved
The process produces transparent weld seams with very high mechanical strength and excellent resistance to thermal cycling. Joining is carried out without post-treatment, with competitive cycle times, while allowing information functions to be added to the structures.
