Laser DED additive manufacturing: Aerospace air duct

Industrial challenge

Conventional manufacturing of rolled-and-welded aerospace ducts remains highly dependent on critical manual operations, generating variability, delays and scrap. The challenge is to make the production of complex-geometry TA6V titanium parts more reliable while meeting the aerospace sector’s stringent requirements for quality, repeatability and traceability.

Solution implemented

IREPA LASER has developed a manufacturing solution using powder-fed laser DED that integrates automation, production monitoring and full traceability of operations. The approach makes it possible to produce controlled near-net-shape geometries, while incorporating post-processing solutions tailored to aerospace finishing requirements.

Challenge met

Manufacturing thin titanium structures requires rigorous control of distortion, geometric stability and metallurgical quality throughout the process. The developments carried out by IREPA LASER ensure robust, repeatable manufacturing in an automated and monitored production environment.

Customer results

The process developed enables the manufacture of ducts that meet aerospace requirements, with a significant reduction in process variability and scrap. This approach strengthens the robustness of the production chain while reducing dependence on critical manual operations.
