Laser DED additive manufacturing: Archimedes screws (parts from small to very large)
Industrial challenge
Archimedes screws used in the energy and tooling sectors have complex geometries and can vary widely in size, from a few centimetres to several metres. The aim is to offer more flexible and faster manufacturing while improving the durability of components subject to wear or corrosion.
Solution implemented
IREPA LASER develops wire-based and powder-based laser DED manufacturing solutions capable of producing both precision parts and large-scale structures. The chosen approach aims to manufacture as close as possible to the final geometry in order to limit re-machining and optimise material usage.
Challenge met
Manufacturing helical geometries requires precise control of toolpaths, geometric accuracy and distortion, whatever the scale of the part. The strategies developed by IREPA LASER ensure process stability both for the rapid manufacture of small parts and for large-scale production requiring long cycles.
Customer results
The solutions developed make it possible to produce Archimedes screws from small to very large sizes with controlled, repeatable geometry. This approach helps reduce manufacturing costs and lead times while extending component service life through targeted adaptation of materials and functional zones.
