Laser welding of a plastic bottle (Medical / Fluidics)
Industrial need
Developing an alternative to conventional injection blow moulding processes for the manufacture of fluid containers such as bottles or vials. The aim is to enable the production of small batches of functional parts while meeting flexibility, lead time and cost constraints.
IREPA LASER solution
Implementation of a mid-infrared laser welding process enabling injection-moulded parts to be joined without adhesive or specific additives. Development of the complete process and associated tooling to ensure control of the interfaces and leak-tightness of the containers.
Technical challenge
Producing a perfectly leak-tight joint without additional filler material, while ensuring the mechanical robustness of the container and process reproducibility in small batches.
Results achieved
The solution enables the rapid development of specific containers for product applications, with great production flexibility. It reduces costs and adapts efficiently to small batches while guaranteeing the leak-tightness of the parts.
