Laser welding of floats for hydrocarbon tanks (Energy)
Industrial need
Manufacturing polymer floats designed to limit evaporation in hydrocarbon tanks by joining two injection-moulded half-shells in a reliable, leak-tight and industrially scalable manner.
IREPA LASER solution
Implementation of a mid-infrared laser welding process enabling transmission joining of the polymer parts. The process ensures controlled melting of the interfaces without adhesive or additives.
Technical challenge
Producing a fast, robust and perfectly leak-tight weld on high-volume parts, while ensuring simple and reproducible implementation in an industrial environment.
Results achieved
The process guarantees reliable leak-tightness and weld quality compliant with the specifications. It enables rapid implementation with limited tooling and provides a solution suited to the constraints of the energy sector.
