Industrial challenge
Crossing noses are subjected to particularly severe mechanical and tribological stresses, causing wear, impacts and fatigue. The challenge is to restore the damaged areas durably while limiting downtime and the costs associated with replacing components.
Solution implemented
IREPA LASER has developed a wire-based laser DED cladding solution that deposits exactly the right amount of material only on the stressed areas. The combination of precise process control and appropriate material selection improves wear performance locally while ensuring the metallurgical continuity of the whole component.
Challenge met
Repairing massive railway components requires rigorous control of thermal effects in order to avoid cracking, distortion and metallurgical inhomogeneities. The strategies developed by IREPA LASER ensure stable, reproducible deposit quality that meets the high requirements of the rail sector.
Customer results
The solution developed restores the functional performance of crossing noses while significantly extending their service life. This approach reduces maintenance costs and offers an industrialisable solution that can be used directly in service.
