IREPA LASER conducts industrial repair trials as part of the RESTORE project
IREPA LASER is proud to take part in the European RESTORE project, an ambitious initiative aiming to develop sustainable and circular solutions for the refurbishment of high-value industrial components.
Within this framework, IREPA LASER is currently carrying out repair trials on one of the project's key use cases (WP5), in close collaboration with Welding Alloys. This cooperation brings together complementary expertise: Welding Alloys contributes its mastery of filler materials and their use in real industrial applications, while IREPA LASER draws on its know-how in laser processes (DED-LASER) and its experience in repair, coating and surface functionalisation.
The aim of this collaboration is to develop robust, efficient and sustainable repair strategies that extend the service life of components while reducing waste, in line with the principles of the circular economy.
The RESTORE project: innovation and sustainability for remanufacturing
The RESTORE project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme (grant agreement no. 101138775), aims to offer sustainable processes and materials for remanufacturing. The project's main innovations include:
- The combination of laser directed energy deposition (L‑DED) and plasma transferred arc (PTA) processes, including a hybrid process designed to increase the industrial deposition rate.
- The use of recycled feedstock and the implementation of a feeding system allowing industrial waste to be fed directly into the melt pool.
- The development of the RESTORE digital platform, providing tools to automate, simulate and optimise remanufacturing processes, as well as to ensure traceability and transparency throughout the value chain.
Industrial applications and impact
The solutions developed within RESTORE target the marine, rail, automotive and aerospace sectors. They enable the refurbishment of critical components such as ship propellers, train bogies and engine casings, guaranteeing performance equivalent to that of a new component while reducing waste and production costs.
RESTORE illustrates how combining industrial expertise, laser processes and digital solutions can open up new avenues for component refurbishment and strengthen resource efficiency in industry.
