Preventive cobalt-based cladding / Stellite hardfacing – parts resistant to wear, corrosion and cavitation
Industrial need
Locally reinforcing parts subjected to severe operating conditions, particularly wear, corrosion and cavitation, in sectors such as nuclear, industry and valve manufacturing.
IREPA LASER solution
Implementation of a cladding process using powder-fed laser DED with a coaxial nozzle, enabling precise control of dilution and deposition with multidirectional movement. The process is optimised to ensure deposit stability and functional properties on complex geometries.
The use of a cobalt-based alloy (Stellite) gives the treated surface extreme resistance to abrasive wear, chemical corrosion and cavitation effects, even at high temperatures.
Technical challenge
Locally reinforcing parts subjected to severe operating conditions: wear, corrosion and cavitation. Applications in the nuclear, industrial and valve sectors, where component failure has major operational and safety consequences.
The main challenge is to limit dilution between the cobalt-based filler material and the substrate, in order to preserve the mechanical and functional characteristics of the deposited alloy while ensuring a homogeneous, repeatable deposit.
Results achieved
The process reduces the thermal impact on the substrate, decreases the number of layers required and produces regular, controlled deposits suited to demanding industrial environments.
